If anyone travels through Colorado you should visit the Last Chance Mine above Creede, CO. We went yesterday and it is truly wonderful. It was one of the richest silver mines in CO. Outside of the silver vein is a quartz material they call "sowbelly". It is an amethyst lace agate with silver sulfides. It is open weekends or fee collecting. The mine operated from the 1800's until sometime last century. The current owner is working on restoring some of the original buildings and part of the underground for future visitors. The mine is off a loop road that goes through the Creede mining district with lots of old mines/relics to see.
