Just got home a few hours ago from the Oregon Trip.
It was HOT and we got burned out a couple days early, we were not planning on getting home till tomorrow.
I took a few pics and I forgot to take a few pics, so here are the ones I did remember to take, hopefully some of the other members can fill in the ones I forgot to take.
It was beautiful weather on the way there, this is a picture taken a little bit before we got to the Ochocos. The day was nice and the weather that night was cold, it was great!
Here is a picture of our camp at Walton Lake, it sure is beautiful there!
It was great getting to meet Scott and his friend Mike for the first time, really good guys!
Heres a group shot, from left to right
Mike, Scott, Myself, and Josh (Ozzy's son)
And another one, Scott, Mike, Josh and Ozzy
Friday we followed Scott and Mike over to Hampton Butte and met up with the pow wow trip, we saw Daniel there also. For some reason this is the day I didn't take any pics. We found one piece of limb cast and Scott and Mike found a pretty nice piece. We also got some pieces of pet wood, but they were pretty soft and brittle.
(Substitute imagination for pictures here)
The next day Ozzy, Josh and I went to White Fir springs to dig in the geode beds. We thought we were finding junk, so we were chucking most of them. The next day we found out we were finding geodes, but they sure didn't look like any geodes we had ever found before. We did come away with a few geodes and quite a bit of jasper like material.
Here is Ozzy talking on the phone in front of the sign.
(I think he was asking if he could stay and play longer?!)
Just kiddin Oz.
We also went to the Prineville pow wow and to the booths up town. We spent more than we should have, I got a nice Royal Imperial slab that cost way too much. The best thing we got that day was these marshmallow shooters, Josh and I shot each other all day long. Good thing they were marshmallows or we would have put an eye out!
We were commenting on how hard these people have to work for their rocks, and we were coming around the corner because I missed a turn and looky what we saw!!
Elkins Rock shop, so we stopped, but they were already closed.
We vowed we would have to stop by there the next day and see if they were gonna be open.
The next day we stopped and Ozzy screamed at me, "Tony I found the jackpot!!!"
It was the 10 cent per pound pile. Needless to say we stayed there for several hours.
I also had to get a little of this
And a little of this
Ozzy's Haul
My haul
The next morning we decided to pack up camp and head home with a few stops on the way. Our first stop was Whistler Springs for some geodes. We found a few, and then headed on to the next stop.
We got to Graveyard Point right on the inside of the Idaho border just before dark, by the time we got camp set up, it was dark. Here is a shot of camp, notice Ozzy's tent to the right?
We got a really big storm that blew in that night, so we didn't get much sleep, we had to hole up in the truck until it blew over. After it blew over the mosquitos got so thick we couldnt sleep then either. The only way we could sleep was to sleep inside the pickup with the AC on. We both got about an hours worth of sleep last night.
This is Ozzy's tent this morning, the poles are broken and it got rolled around a bit.
The last group shot as we were leaving Graveyard Point headed home.
Now I know why Oregon material is so expensive, you have to really work for it!!!
Not like here where you just walk around and pick it up.
All in all we had a blast, got to see some wonderful country, and meet some new friends. Makes me antsy waiting for the next trip!!
Sorry its so long..................Tony
