Well another Sunday went by with me at the grinder. My photos seem a little better this time but I'm still not happy with them. My camera is driving me a bit nuts. Even on macro it won't focus if I get closer than 18" to the cab. This means I loose a lot of detail once I zoom into the cab. Oh well, enough blathering, here's the cabs.
Amethyst. I got a better shine on this one than on previous attempts. Still not like glass though.
Blackskin or montana agate, I'm not exactly sure which one it is. I like it either way.
I bought 3 chunks of dryhead agate off of ebay. I was disappointed that only one rock had agate in it (it was sold as mine run) but at least that one is very good.
Gold moss agate, at least that is what Spiritstone called it. This was the only cab I couldn't get to shine up in this batch.
Horse canyon moss agate. The chunk is pretty vuggy but I'm hoping to get some cabs out of it, you know me and green. I tried to do a double faced cab with this one. Whenever I do that it ends up looking more like a tumbled stone. Should I leave a flat girdle on the sides when I do this?
Labradorite. Not great quality but it still has some decent flash. Couldn't capture it in the photo though.
Mahogany obsidian. I cut this one across the "grain". I think the brown shows up better when you cut at an angle to or parallel to the "grain".
Mexican sagenite. Sorry, no comments on this one. lol
Montana agate. I did this one as a freeform but the shape came up really uniform.
Unknown. Any ideas?
Unknown jasper. This came from Stonesthatrock in an FBR I bought from them. I love the color, very different green. I've named this one "A Tree Grows In Hatfield" lol
Nipomo marcasite. This rock is seriously impressive in person, not sure my cabbing skills live up to the rock. My fav of the group.
Thanks for looking.
