I came across a deal on a large quantity of 22.0 micron alumna oxide. Right now I've got two 50 lb buckets but if I move quickly I can get more. I won't have any stones ready to polish for 3 more days to test it out.
My question is: Is 22.0 micron Alumina Oxide suitable for a polish or is it a prepolish?

That is about 1000 grit, so pre-polish is all. For polish I think you generally want <3 micron AlOx, usually 0.5-1.0 here's a handy reference from the world of faceting: www.faceters.com/askjeff/answer67.shtml

Yeah, I did some calculations and came up closer to 1200 grit. But my calculations could be flawed. Still pre-polish. Oh well, I'm sitting on 100 lbs of pre-polish. Figuring I'll use 1/4 cup a week in my vibe tumblers I'm pretty much fixed for life on pre-polish.
Thanks for the link to the chart rallyrocks. It will save me a lot of head scratching in the future.
Yep, I stll have the AO you sent me rockitman. I use it when I'm doing a batch all the way to polish in the rotaries. I haven't tried it yet in my vibes...
