Here are the some photos of the shells that survived stage 1. I would have kept them in there longer, but they were disintegrating pretty quickly. I am hoping stage 2 will be better for them. The colors that are starting to show are very nice looking and showing alot of promise.

Glad you took them out before they fully disintigrated. They do look like they will polish up well. Tami

Checked them after about 18 hours in stage 2 and they are holding up to that grit alot better than stage one. There is still some pitting that concerns me, but that is the nature of the material. May try running them in the second stage longer than normal unless they start getting worse.

They are pretty, the first one top left looks a little like dino bone. Will they shine up after the last stage?

The top left is some type of Bone, its not a dinosaur it is most likely the bone of an ancient now extince fish that used to inhabit these parts. Complete skeletons have been found in the river the shells are found in.
I am not 100% sure the will shine. There is going to be some pitting regardless of what I do. I am hoping this will not effect the final outcome too bad.

Well I took them out of stage 2 last night. After about 18 hours I checked them and even with the pre-polich they almost have a nice polish. They should polish on up very nicely

Here are the pics I took whe I checked them earlier. I am checking these about every 6 to 10 hours due to their softness. As you can tell they have not even gone to polish yet and are already getting a good polich to them.

Well I put them in the polish for 24 hours and they just started to totally disintegrate. The one on the right in the last pic is gone. It broke apart entirely. I manged to salvage some of the larger pieces and they came out rather nicely.
I started a new batch today. I am going to be a bit more watchful on these in the early stages and see if I can get better results. The color bands show amazing potentional, but that is their fault as well each band is a seperate layer and if that layer fractures the whole piece splits.

Quite pretty.
Where are you located or finding these?
How do you know it is fossilized shell?

These are found in the bed of the North Sulpher River in Northeast Texas. It is well know for its fossils. They are literally everywhere.
