It looks like petrified coral. If those small holes have "riflings" (and they seem to have) it's pet coral for sure.

there's an area just outside Blythe, California (actually I think the best collecting is the arizona side) along the Colorado river. I have several pieces of different kinds of coral from there. Very nifty stuff. Haven't tried cutting it yet, but I have sold a couple of the more completely formed pieces as specimens.
