All - sandsman1 has been allocated rights to delete garbage from posts (from people who come in just to cause hassle).
Ive known sandsman perhaps the longest on here from memory and I trust him - of course amongst others aswell.
I need the help as theres been some dodgy posts recently and I wasnt around to sort it out for us.
The main thing is that if new people join then straight away start ranting - well thats time for an edit.
Cheers all Mark.

Thanks Mark and John. We need some control on board, because bad comments get us all heated up. Then maybe we say things we wouldn't have otherwise. This is the only board or chat area of any kind I have been on for anywhere near this long, and I would like for it to stay as friendly and helpful as I found it. Terry

I think Sands is the right person. He is like the old Andy, he don't care unless others do. Way to go. I think that is a good answer. Personally, I miss the offence a lot of others see. I do indeed see it once a thread starts spinning into digging. I think that is a good move.

I guess if we have to be policed to make sure nobody gets their feelings hurt or says something bad, I'd rather it be Sands than anybody else. BUT I do think it utterly disgusting that because of a few nasty posts by a guest, somebody has to cry "oh help! protect us from these bad people that make nasty posts" How childish and foolish. Would have been so much easier to just ignore them and go on, but instead we change the whole flavor of the board. I don't think it's a good think.
And guess I will be admonished or maybe even banned because I think this is a crappy idea. Sands, nothing against you at all. Ya' know I love ya'. I just don't like whiners that always cry for someone to protect them from the realities of life. And that reality iincludes guests that post nasties. Pretty thin skinned if we can't take a few nasties and go on about our business without changing the whole operation. I'd say we just playing right into his hands. He wanted to start trouble and he did - bet he's sitting behind his monitor gloating. Ya'll should be proud!
Outta here! llana

hahaha no guys I'm still gonna be the same old sandman who wants a few laughs everyday and don't care what i got to do to get them hahaha-----I'm nobody special just a sandy man that can delete a post and no this wont go to my head hahaha i hope everything goes smooth so i never have to delete anything --- i been here acouple years i think and maybe once or twice i seen something that needed deleting so i hope it takes acouple more --I'm easy going unless its nasty and directed to a specific person -- I'm all for free speech --- so lets just go on like before and say ohhh look sands got some fancy stars hahaha---cause I'm not gonna be Hawking every post i like the way things are going now we don't need to be policed except when we get an unfriendly guest and there far and few so I'm still gonna just have fun

Sandman...think it's a good idea to have a moderator. Politics aside, I see it as you're there to keep things from getting out of hand. (Also to protect us from someone spamming the boards with shady advertising/promotions...which happens)
I'm all in favor of it. It's just a way to keep the forums tidy and to the point. I don't believe Sandman or Mark will alter the overall "flavor" of the forum by doing this. Just sharing responsibility.
Thanks to both of you for the forums. It's been an invaluable tool for me. I for one REALLY appreciate it and value what I learn from everyone here! It's almost like picking up the phone and being able to ask a friend a stupid question...not laughing at you and just helping you.
You guys really are the best! Hugs, Emerald

As I've said before, I won't get upset no matter what you do, but I must admit, I am fundamentally against censorship in any form.

Llana I hope you are gonna stick around!!!! We need thick skinned people like you to keep us in the real world!!! I am against censorship also (Ron) but we need to remember that we are not the only ones here! Take a look at the number of people viewing at any time- Last night there were 2 members and 3 viewers on here- We are judged by what we type and often times what may pass as funny in our minds is hurtful and mean when read (I am as guilty of this as anyone) Sands is not here to spank us and put us in the corner- he is just here to make sure we play by the rules- ALL OF US!!!! It would be a shame to lose even one member (good or bad) over this- And the arguments that have occured latly have left some very hurt and bitter- So lets put that all in the past and work on making the board even better! THere now I can climb down off the Flat Rate box and get to work!

Agreed - I don't think that having an extra moderator as well as Mark is going to alter the feel for the board - it is just sensible to have an extra person that has the ability to edit a post, if it needs it, just as Mark has been doing up to now.
I don't think there is any danger of mass censorship over this - moderators are a part of online disucssion forums in general and a sensible addition as a forum grows. Lets face it Mark has a life offline also and can't be expected to read every post on every thread. Having someone else who can also moderate if needs be just shares the load.

hey guys i dont think when mark ask me if id like to do this he had any kind of sensorship in mind ( SEE IF YOU CANT SPELL IT YOU CANT BE ONE) hahaha,, he just thought that when he is away and cant get here that it would be nice to put someone here with limited brain power to be able to delete something thats not nice befor our guest's see it --- ive never herd anything that any member has ever said that i think needed to be censord,, i think we all have the right to speek our minds and that wont change not by me anyway--if ever we had a cross word between members they worked it out and where friends again --this thing mark did is not a bad thing we have alot of great guest that come here and are pollite --- but it seams every now and then we get someone who like to stir the pot and leave and i think cause it upset so many people last time mark thought it would be a good thing to nip it in the bud befor it snowballed thats all ,, well thats my thought's on it

Censorship is often not recognized until long after the damage has been done. As an example, I often buy my music CDs from Great Britain as they are uncensored, as opposed to CDs sold in the US which undergo some really strange censoring. There are groups out there that don't export their music to the US rather than submit to the censorship.
Having said all of that, now take a look at the music that is published in this country and doesn't undergo the same censoring. Some of the gangsta rap music is truly gross and offensive, yet it plays on the radio all the time. I guess it's just not okay if it comes from somewhere else. This is an international board and people's views are not all the same, so who get's to decide what's "good" and what's "bad". No offense to you John, you have been a good friend to me, I just don't like having my window to the world filtered by anyone.

It's not to censor anyone at all, it's just to be here to remove the nasty little things like some of our recent guests have posted. To remove them so possible members don't see it and think .... ewww that's a nasty board, look what they let people post.
It's not censorship and it's not a bad thing to have that kind of stuff removed. Spammers, whatever, they will sign up and put crap about porn sites and what not. Why should we have to see that on our rock board if it can be removed? That's all he's going to be doing and I for one will appreciate it. This is, after all, a family board.
How would that be censoring anyone here? Good grief, this is all being blown way out of proportion. It's just supposed to protect us from spam and crap ... not from each other. How about we just thank Mark and Sands for caring enough to keep the crap off our board and just let it go?

I understand your point Ron about censorship of discussion - but I don't think I have ever seen a post made on this board by a member that would have been moderated. The problem has been with people who don't really have an interest in the hobby just coming on purely to disrupt the board - so far even though it is irritating it has been fairly tame - however on the forum that I am an admin on in the past we have had people come on to disrupt who have posted pornographic pictures or obscene insults to our members - we have a couple of moderators to watch over things and on one occasion when something like this happened we were away for the weekend, if there had not been another mod on the board the posts would have sat there and the idiot allowed to keep posting until we got back, due to the nature of the DB topic new people would have been very put off the board if they had stumbled onto this and regular members put off. Mods are not there to censor discussion but to stop people who are blatantly trying to insult and disrupt. Just my 2c

I think it's a great idea, I'll tell ya why. You should see the things people say to each other on the bulldog forums, I can't even read them anymore they make me sick. Nobody moderates, everyone hates each other, all posts are negative, nasty comments are made about peoples dogs, children, wives, husbands, people make death threats!!! Trust me people as a species are inclined to make conflict, without someone with a level head, all hell breaks loose! Way to go Sands and Mark! Marian ps Anyone want to see what kind of boards I'm talking about, just email me I'll send you a link... pss The bulldog boards werent always like that, it just got bad slowly over that last few years because it was unchecked...
