Well, folks, I picked this up as a bonus at the Ogallala Pet Wood museum. After reading about Biggs Jasper, thanks D. Rhodes, I had a momentary heart palpitation. But I got over it, thank goodness! I don't think my jasper is Biggs, even tho it is blue. Possibly Succor Creek? Any help would be great. It's just cool to actually OWN some neat jasper. So of course, here are a few pix: And another: And an end shot: So what do you all think? Personally, I think it's pretty. Cool rocks! K

Thanks, Daniel. I have another question; what are those little do-dads on top of my jasper? They look kind of like petrified leaches. I thought they were just deposits of some kind, but I have one chunk that makes me wonder. Top view: And bottom view: And my anomaly. No, it won't wash off; it's in the rock. Any ideas?

Oh, just burst my bubble, haha. Actually I am fascinated by how it all formed. I can feel the difference you mentioned, between the pieces I have. 2 are more finely grained. Thanks for your info, and please realize that I am just happy to have some pic jasper! For 50 cents a pound out of a pet wood pile... Thanks! And I can sure live w/ Chicken Track Jasper. I can't wait to look that up. What a hoot, and thanks so much for your info! K

Yes, I did not see the tracks in the 1st photo, but suspected they were there. I have not yet heard a good explination of the tracks. Some suggest the mud that is petrifying gets a skin on top and it contracts and wrinkles - but the tracks are too organized. Others say that it is a crystalization thing and they are large crystals that form at right angles. But what happened to the crystal. It is just white mud now.
Some chicken track is very course like some wonderstone and will not polish. Usually these have grey sky blurry hills. When you get the blue sky, you often get a harder stone that will take a nice polish.

I just posted a cab I cut from material similar to your slabs. It's in the bakers dozen thread in the cab section.

Thanks, Ed, that's gorgeous! So my chicken tracks have potential... I am thinking that I have 2 different kinds; 2 have the tracks, the other 3 don't, and the colors are deeper. One is more brown all thru. It's an adventure, learning what I have!

No, sad to say; I have to send the bigger pieces out to be cut. And I can't cab; all I can do is kinda shape on my WF, then tumble. Would love a great cab; any takers?

I have a bunch of the same stuff Karen and hi. Never could decide on the right name either, Succor Jasper is as close as I have gotten. That is probably it but I would like a better eye than mine to say so. I tried to end it there but have to show off my eclipse sunset since we are talking about that rock. Mark

Here is a piece of chicken Track that shows a distinct sunset and blue sky. Hopefully yours will show something similar. Bob
