I have an opal question… On, let's say, boulder opal, if you have some of the whittish opal, the one that has no color flash, if you grind that down, or grind it at a different angle, do you know if you would end up with color? Or is it just white opaque opal? I have a smallish piece that has color at one end, and the whitish veins at the other - if I do some creative grinding & shaping would I end up with color? I haven,t worked this much to know where to find the color, I'm pretty much, if it's there and exposed, I'll use that Thanks

Hi, Tweet! I find the white material usually is a nice pool of white and any color will be played out around it, though with Koroit I'm always surprised at what can occur. Try grinding a dome over the white and see if some color appears around it... just be careful not to grind away the white or the color at the other end. One of my biggest peeves is when I have a nice cab shaped chunk and all the best color is on the edges not the faces Like I said before the best thing is to experiment with it and not be afraid to screw up a piece or two. YOu can learn a lot by messing up a rock. TW
