Has anyone on this board used art clay? It's supposed to be a 90 percent silver compound that is mixed with some bonding agent. It is baked in a kiln and can be used to make jewelry. I've been reading about it and wondered if any of you have tried it/can share experiences? Susan

Seems I saw someone working with that on HGTV Carol Duvall. You might see if you can find the episode on their website or email her.... I just can't remember,
I remember thinking it was pretty neat stuff, but expensive

Rio Grande sells it, though I'm sure there are others. You can get it in gold or silver. Its been around for many years and I've heard is very easy to work with. It is also called PMC - precious metal clay.

I do not like it. No matter how hard I try, the items always come out looking like I am 12yrs old and in basic art class. I do not like the other designs I have seen either. Just my opinion. It is also way more expensive than just carving wax and making a casting.

The initals are pmc also known as Precious Metal Clay, I have not used it yet, but I am hoping to one of these days. I have seen it used on Carol Duvall show and Crafters Coast to Coast, both on HGTV channel. The Silver is more than 90% it is like 99.99% pure silver, they say that it is the purist silver you can get because it is suspended in a clay. You don't have to heat it in a kiln, you can also use a torch to bring it to the silver stage. One interesting thing is after some of the crafters had heated their piece, they put it in their rock tumbler with metal shot to burnish the silver and bring out it's natural beauty. They also sell the PMC in a thick liquid form that is sold in a syringe. Tami Tami

I've used it and have been pretty happy with the results. Of course, I'm no artist or anything. I use only art clay, low fire because you can use a torch to fire it and don't need a kiln.

Yea it looks pretty cool- But you are limited to your sculpting abilities- So I'll never be using it (I could not even make a snake outta clay!) Fire Mountain Gem has this stuff in a kit (pretty spensive) with a tourch and all-

:)well you're not really limited stefan...you can use molds or press things into the clay. If you're creative there are a million ways to hide the fact that you have the artistic talent of a demented salamander...as i do.
of course I mean no disrespect to salamanders.

Hey I wish I were as talented as a salamander!!!!! I never really considered the mold idea- just figured that stuff was too expensive to have me roll little balls of clay up and fire it-LMAO
