A guy whose family used to own a big rock shop near me came over to my work place(he has a goldsmithing business 2 doors down) and handed me this gorgeous slab of Blue Biggs. This stuff is from the 1960's. First 2 pics are front and back dry. Now wet These pics are without any enhancement at all. Any ideas on how much these would go for these days?

That is one purrrty stone! Are you gonna cab it, or just drool all over it??!! I'm sure Dale could give you an idea on the value. I think that the Blue Biggs is some of the best and most valuable material taken from the area. Steve

I can't decide whether to keep it as is or cut it, but knowing me, I'll at least have to cut one cab from it!

Ed, I only have one slab of that in my collection that measures about 6" x 12". I paid $60 maybe 15 years ago and thought that was an excellent price at the time. I've seen a few smaller slabs of that quality go for $100 or more more recently.....Mel

Unbelievable stuff... I really hope we get to see it featured in one of your cabs, even if you decide to sell the rest.

The most I have gotten for a slab like that was during an Ebay Bidding battle and it was just about identical and went for $150.00...I would say a good guesstimate at average value would be $85.00 but what it really boils down to is the fact that this variety of Blue Biggs is the rarest, its where the whole slab is Blue and if it were mine and for sale I would have at the very least $65.00 and that would be a heck of a bargain but as pointed out by another poster Loveland's auctions will sometimes have Blue like this that goes fairly reasonable. My advice, hang onto it as its like money in the bank, Highly Collectable. Thanks for sharing the pics...

I was hoping you would see this Dale. I'll probably cut a small section so I can cut a few cabs, then keep the rest for a rainy day!

Damn, Ed, that's a super sweet piece! I'd polish it and keep it whole, you won't find many others like that.
Okay, so you've probably cabbed it already, right? ;D

Saw some slabs like that, slightly smaller, at the Grassy Creek Show near Spruce Pine, NC Tuesday and they were going for $40-$60.00 each. Keep in mind that I bought 2 chunks of Deschutes at the same show that weigh about 4 # each for $1.00 each. Bargain City is what I call it there.
