What fun for you and your family! I spent some time, growing up, near the Teddy Roosevelt Natl. Park, North unit. My dad was an employee of the Nat. Forest Service, so he showed us all the fun stuff near Watford City, N. D. Your pictures of the badlands brought back many memories! Thanks so much! And yes, Dad, altho he was a ranger and a rockhound, never collected anything, nor would he allow us kids to do so, until he got permission. Sometimes he did get permission, sometimes not.
I remember trekking back with Dad's boss, to a site where Dad had found a cool geological speciman, to ask if he could take a sample. Dad did get a neat limestone formation from that. It was an eye-opener for us kids; sometimes rocks are free, and sometimes they need to be left where they are.
Thanks for taking your kids to such places. It's memories like this that will haunt you in a good way for many years. Even if they talk about the boring trip (we did that many times, but obviously it made an impression on us)! they are going to remember the time spent. And, once they have kids, take pieces of that trip and pass them on to their kids.
Good job, Scott!

Neat trip pics and what a lot of humongous hunks of wood! Anytime I see badland formations I get excited. My dad also used to take me on trips through the badlands and usually our old station wagon managed to break down in there somewhere and I got to hunt rocks while pop went for help. Looks like you all had a great time and I'm sure your kids will remember that trip for a long while.....Mel

Wow! Thanks for the pics, I've never been in that part of the country. What a great trip.
