Do silicon carbide wheels do pretty well on softer stones like turquoise? Would they do about as well as agate on diamond?
Thanks!

I haven't used the good ones... just ones with my bench grinder before I got an arbor and diamond. All I can say is diamond seems to be the way to go on everything. I got cable yesterday and I'm so fast now I might be becoming invisible. Sil Carb is like dialup... diamond is like space travel T

SiC is fine for the softer materials, but it does tend to "load up" a little. I have used lapidary SiC wheels on opal, rhodocrosite, labradorite, turquoise, alunite and lots of other soft material. I have also used them on hard stuff like Brazilian agate-wiht less success. I just had to make sure LOTS of water was running while grinding the soft stuff.
