Jack, that's Chiasolite. Did you get it like that or did you remove it from the matrix yourself? Just curious, because it's a material that local to me. I've got a ton of it, but haven't yet worked out how best to get it out of the schist matrix. Yay! An ID I can actually make!

A Good Friend gave it to me, he had three of them.
though i wish it was the material with the Wagon wheel spoke looking design in it, Of the corundum family.
as for the matrix try engraving tool one of the upper end in guilty.
I use one to cleaning fossils.
depends on hardness of stone and the type of cleavage the material has if it well work will on it.
