Hi all,
My hubby got me a Dremel drill press for my birthday, and I want to use it to do some cab drilling. I was thinking about how to hold the cab while I'm drilling, and I wondered if I could dop the cab to a piece of wood. Would that work?
My husband recommended trying foam double-stick tape...the industrial stuff.

Get a roll of carpet tape. It is about an inch an half wide thick double back tape. The foam tape would give too much movement, which will lead to broken bits. Woody

Dopping to a piece of wood would work great. Place the whole thing in a shallow water pan. Mark the drill the depth of the cab and slow way down right near the end. That and dop wax will eliminate "blowing out" the back side. Also remember to apply very light pressure and back off allowing the rock dust to float up out of the hole.

Sticking a waster slab to the back with sodium silicate (water glass) was the old method to prevent blowout. Even though it dissolves in water, if you have let it fully dry (two days) it will hold long enough to drill your hole. Woody

i have used putty to hold my stones down. play dough kind of gets slimy in water so i used a good putty that didn't disolve in water. i just got a shallow bowl (water is a must or you will burn up your diamond drill bits) put a piece of putty on the bottom of it and then squished my stone in it and then put the water in there afterwards. also i usually drill my stone before i actually cab it up so if i did have any rough edges or blow out then i could just get rid of it when i worked the stone.
