we have a cabin up in Blue ridge GA Clark Mountian to be exact. any good areas to hound. I have purched a few location books (rock, gem, and mineral collecting sites in WNC.) bar far the best location book i have found. I plan on visiting a few of them listed in the book but was wondering if anyone has a good spot in the area(100 miles). just thought i would ask. leaving friday for a little RR up there and wanted to try out the new hobbie.
Thanks in advance STEVE

Thanks for the input.
i was able to visit three mines while up in N GA.
first one i went to was Gold and Gem Grubbin Mine in Cleveland GA. we did the all day dig by the creek. they have a dump pile brought in from there mine and dumped next to the creek. You get to fill your bucket at the pile drag it to the creek and start sifting also can dig in creek. found some nice stuff Amethyst, pyrite, obsidian, ruby, sapphire and some nice quartz crystals 3 0r 4 in. long. lots of fun even for the Little ones. my 4 yr old had a blast.
second on was Buck Creek ruby mine Clay county NC. followed the book and walked right to it. about 1\2 mile in woods. great location dump piles everywhere. found some white sapphire, and about 4 pounds of garnets from pea size to quarter size have a whole zip lock bag full.and a few rubies.
the last place i made it to was Consolidated gold mine in Dalonague GA. PAY DIRT by the bucket. this place is great for filling up on all kinds of specimens. very salted but good. well worth the money. they have a tour of the gold mine you can go down in the mine shaft they explain a lot about gold mining in the southeast. tour is about 45 min. lot of fun for all ages.

I've been to the first one and the 3rd one. Very fun indeed! I can't wait to go back. I want to move up there!
