I'm a newbie who wants to get into rock tumbling. First, let me say that I appreciate all of the information posted on this site. i have been learning a LOT! I have collected some rcoks and appropriate equipment. However, one thing that I haven't been able to find an answer to is what do you do with the slurry after a tumblin phase is done? If you can't pour it down the drain...
Do you leave it set somewhere until the water evaporates out of it? I understand that it's not worth recycling and reusing. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

NO, NO, NO! Whatever you do, do not pour it down the drain. It will harden up like cement and you'll have one heck of a plumbing bill getting it fixed. That money could instead be used for more rocks, or equipment or even sending it to me just because. I clean my rocks in a certain area of my backyard and just dump the slurry there. You can also use a strainer then as you rinse the rocks place the slurry in a plastic bag and get rid of it in the trash afterwards.

I'm another backyard rinser. The slurry isn't toxic, so just pour the rocks into a strainer, rinse, and let the lawn soak up the slurry. If you live in a cold winter climate like me, then when the ground is frozen I rinse into a 10 gallon plastic garbage pail in the basement, and after the slurry separates from the water in a few days you can either dump the water outside in the snow or tsk, tsk, dump it down the sink. -Don

I tumble in the basement. When its time for a rinse, I grab my $1 plastic collander and my 3 lb. Lortone tumble container and go through the storm door into the back yard. There is a spot next to the foundation (behind a garden) where I dump the slurry into the collander and rinse well with the garden hose. The slurry dumps on to the ground near the foundation. I figure it can't do any harm there and might even help seal the foundation! I rinse everything very thoroughly with water there before bringing any of it into the main house. Being in NH, things are tough during the winter. I keep a 5 gallon bucket in the basement. To rinse the rocks, I put the bucket in the sink (or bathtub) and then dump/rinse into the bucket. When the bucket gets full, I dump it off the back porch, again next to the foundation. Welcome and good luck!

Thank you all very much! I've been eyeing an empty spot in my new landscaping plan and wondering what I could put there behind those evergreens, but that just may be my new slurry dump zone.

I just rinse my tumbling rock andgear in the backyard between stages. I just leave it there in the grass.
