I finally had a little free time yesterday & it's still too hot to go outside & do any collecting or cutting, so I made a few cabs. I tried photographing them different ways, but dang it's hard to get good pics of cabs! They are all self collected in Arizona & California. Here goes: A group photo on a dark background. There are a couple of tube/moss agates, plume, purple fortification, & marcasite in agate. Same batch on a light background. A close up of the marcasite in agate. It's really beautiful - very metallic & sparkly, but hard to photograph. A close up of the purple fortification agate - again hard to see how pretty the purple color really is. Thanks for looking!

I like most the marcasite (is this Nipomo marcasite?) and the big one, that one looks like a bald tree in winter time.
Beautiful cabs, all of them!

WOW! Awesome cabs. That's so cool that you collected the material. The marcasite is nice and the purple one is really nice and the rest are really great too. You have a very nice nice cabbing style.

Hi all, thanks for the nice comments. I do enjoy making cabs, I just don't get to it very often. Adrian - No, it isn't Nipomo - I've never made it over there to collect. This material is from a small deposit that a friend & I found near Los Angeles in Southern California. It is incredibly dirty to work & smells like raw petroleum oil when you cut it. It's beautiful material though.

Man, that maracasite in agate is really cool. What does that rock look like in the rough? It's kind of weird looking to me, but at the same time it's so incredibly nice.

Thanks again, all. Condor - It has a rough & pitted rind that is yellowish in color. I'll post a picture of it here tomorrow.

My favorite is that big tube agate one...really nice job on them all, though!

Missed this post! ;D Nice cabs Patti. My favorite is the middle one on the bottom row, as well as the squared moss one. You should give yourself more time to cab! ;D I know you have some awesome stuff. Steve

Hi Condor, sorry it's taken me so long, but here's a pic of that marcasite agate in the rough.

Wow I must have missed this one, those are some super sweet cabs Patti! I love the design in the large center oval, and that shade of purple really gets my heart a pumpin'. Very nice!

Hi Beef, thanks for the nice compliments. It's all relatively local material. I got the purple at Burro Creek - let me know if you'd like to ever make a trip over there & maybe we can meet up & do some collecting.
