A while back I wanted to make a choker necklace. I realized that I needed something to curve and tap the wire to shape it.. I didn’t have a mandrel so I began searching the house for a decent substitute. This is what I found and used. A cannonball that my son found while excavating. This is the first choker I made using the cannonball This is the second one Sometimes you just have to improvise. ;D

Oh Boy!! These are great. I love that you shaped these on a cannon ball.
I think the first one is my favorite.
Thanks for sharing.

necessity if the mother of adventure. I guess I'll have to find my own cannon ball to use as a mandel for neck wires.
Nice job

Lori this is gorgeous. Now where would I find a cannon ball in my parts of the world! But maybe I could improvise something else. Btw, what ga wire did you use?

The first one was i think 20gauge and way to thin. The second is either 18 or 16 gauge. As for the cannonball I never thought there were any in my neck of the woods either.

Very clever, my favorite saying is Necessity is the mother of invention. Love the necklaces. Tami

Thanks, the only thing about the cannonball that I learned on the first one is that when tapping the silver against the ball, the silver took on the irregular texture and gave the silver a really rustic look. With the second choker, I covered the ball with a towel.
