It looks great but what are you going to do with it all? I have some small carnelian in one of the tumblers now (probably equal to one of those stones). I am not sure if it will ever get done...(That is inpatients talking) I will look forward to seeing what you do with some of it since it looks to be a great quality! Fran

Thank you Frane,
Dad lived on farm land in Sodaville Oregon you could not dig a Cu.Yard. with out finding at least 100 Lbs. of agate. some time`s a piece of holley blue or wood would show up.
Though the best material came from the Sweethome area, Much darker red.

Is the color only on the outside of the rock? Some of the carnelian I've cut is clear in the middle - any patterning or inclusions?

that is the case most often, The out side Patina is iron stain and it is pale in side,
Though i do dig material that is Blood Red in side and Oregon has a lot of this material.
in a dig you can be digging, And find pale agate though move 10 ft. and you`l find a totally different shade.
The Banding in Carnelian is Micron Banding, Know as Chalcedony agate.
though in the same dig ( Hole ) you`l fine Onyx Plate over plate in a level line. Onyx is a formation name.
Banding found in same area Geode ring`s from the casting pocket to the center term banding / geode, fortification agate is same as banding, some of the terms have been misleading in the last 130 years.!!!
Oregon is Famous for their Basalt flows they contain 70% plus silicates, and for that fact is why you can walk just about any river stream dry run off dry lake bed and find agate, jasper, fossil`s, Petrified wood. and most often rock hounds. though best to stay away from them worse then a rattle snake most often.
No were friendly.
Inclusions yes in Lebanon,Oregon their was a dig ( House`s now ) that had feathers of white plume on TY-VALLEY RD. so. of Lebanon, i just say for the local`s that read this site.
a lot has very fine tube agate formations to.
some on the west side of the cascades well have Magnesium Dendritic pattarns in side like Montana moss yellow stone agate.
Sue i could rite a book for the info. i know about the back yard i call home.

Jack,
You do have great rough! I just finished building my new tumbler and I’m turning almost all (50 pounds or so) the carnelian and graveyard point I got from you not too long back.
I’ll let you know how it turns out. BTW I need some more rough.
