I believe the main supplier of leather belts stopped making them. I've been looking for one for about two years. Once the stores ran out of their stocks, there were no more leather belts to be had. I've used resin belts with success, and I have a leather pad on the end of my machine.

You're right Ronda. About 2 years ago someone was looking for 8" belts and the word was that they weren't being made anymore. I found someone selling one and I bought it. Fortunately, the leather belts last a long time and I still haven't had to use the new one yet.

Jack,
Unfortunately there is no one in the United States making the Leather belts for expander drums any longer, as superior polishing products have been developed over the years. You may want to check out HOJ - House of Jewelry in Australia, and they may be able to help.

Resin belts do work OK, although I don't think I'd call them superior to leather, which makes me wonder-
What is this "superior to leather" material of which this salesperson speaks?

I will admit that when I first got my leather end plate, I preferred the results I was achieving on resin over those on the leather. I've had to break my leather in TOTALLY, which took a lot longer than just applying diamond paste to resin...

I have the same question, What is Superior?? I am making a polishing set-up currently and have been looking for the leather belt too. The only good replacement in my opinion would be muslin material, anyone know if they make a 8 x 3 muslin belt for a expando drum??

Soak your leather lap in a plate of water and cover it with one of those new meal saver ...Shower cap looking plastic cover made by Zip Lock.pat dry with clean towel. i use a sponge and push water into the laether Though i soak in good and run dry short time , a then brush on polish.

i was told by Rick Bohr from 3-M, That every one is going with the new Diamond belts in the 600 Grit - 1400 Grit, and they seem to like them. And the resin belt`s. My question to him was can you re-charge the risen. Answer was dos`t work well.

I was using diamond paste with resin just fine...recharged when needed. That's the difference. I can't imagine using resin with any of the oxide mixes.
