This is some rough garnet we found this past spring at Morefield mine. The large one isn't gem quality but it is the largest one found there in years so I am pretty happy with it. I am not sure I will tumble these. Maybe a few of the small ones to see how they do.

wow thats very kewll .... where is the Morefield mine at ? I heard there were some garnet mines in CT , those are the ones I'm likely to go to.

Morefield (in Amelia, VA) is known first for its Amazonite and a lot of other minerals (mica, quartz, etc) but they found garnets in the red soil on top of the ground. I thought I had dug out a black rock at first. I didn't know what I had until my husband washed it off and realized that it had color. Fran

When you google Connecticut garnets...an greens farms garnet mines in Roxbury appears...I'm sure someone must have tried this location. csroc
