okyes I'm new to the whole Rock Hounding thing. really just for the past few months. but I can't stop looking down now. Every where we go I see rocks ands its hold on a sec i have to go look at somthing. i go search the pile. I was out shooting sporting clys on this course on the side of a mountian. while waiting my turn im looking all around for rocks. LOL
if this is normal then fine i guess ill have to live with it

No, it is abnormal, but you have to live with it! You have caught the addiction and there is nowhere to go but deeeper and deeper down into the (digging) hole. Bob

Your normal. Last year my friend and I were driving to our hunting spot and out of nowhere I yelled stop and he thought that I must have seen a deer or something and he slams on the breaks. I jumped out of the truck and start looking at this road cut and grabbing rocks. I get back to the truck and he tells me if I ever did that again that he was going to shoot me instead of the deer. Now every time were out we always laugh about that and he refuses to stop when I ask him to. So I'm the driver now.

Yup...normal. In fact, I now walk with my head perpetually down scanning for rocks.
It eases a little with time but never truely goes away.

While I cannot attest to the normalcy of the situation, it does sound like you're heading down the same slippery slope as the rest of us.
I've found that with your pockets fulla rocks, you slide down even faster!! ;D
Welcome Steve!

OK as long as everyone else is the weird one and not me then I,m all set. just a little neck pain but I'm sure i will develop the rockiest houndis muscle located in the lower rear of the neck and ill be all set.
had someone bring me a handful of rocks from Porte Rico (from in water fall) yesterday. some pretty colors.

while there is no cure, you can purchase relief. I have found from personal experience that by digging, trading, and buying an obnoxious amount of rock over several years, that I can now go to a rock show and just get a few slabs - or log onto ebay w/o making a bid. It helps if in one or two months the money you spend on rockhound trips and buying rocks or equipment strainse your budget to the point where you eat down you pantry instead of buying groceries. This form of aversion therapy is all that will work - and relapse is still possible.

Hi All, my name is Dean and I'm a rock-a-holic.
On one of our extended trips, we pulled the camper rig into a KOA for showers and laundry. While walking through the gravel parking lot I kept almost dropping the laundry because I was scanning the ground ;D, lol.

Nah. You're not normal until you start digging up parking lots.

I think me and stoner have you all beat. On the way to woodward ranch Gil (Condor) stopped at a Circle K so we could get a drink or gas or something like that and Ed and I were behind the dumpster looking for rocks, didn't find much but it was our first chance to hop out of the car and hunt for something. I guess the KOA gravel is just as bad.

One of my coolest pet woods I have found comes from a gravel road. I left a quite big hole (grape-fruit size) in that road but I dug it and I grabbed it. So, HERE you're normal, but don't count that "normal" people would consider you normal Adrian
