I made this sculpture with a story behind it. I love doing it that way --------------------------------------------------- On March 27, 1912, Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo gifted 3,020 Japanese ornamental cherry trees to the city of Washington, DC. The trees were planted all along the north bank of the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park. Each year, between mid-March and mid-April, the cherry trees in Washington begin to bloom and the city celebrates its annual Cherry Blossom Festival. -------------- This tree sculpture represents a Kwanzan cherry tree, one of the 12 different varieties that have been gifted to the City of Washington. This tree has been created from 26 gauge, brown-colored wire, and contains 123 branches, 620 rose quartz leaves, a large tumbled quartz stone, and a sandstone base (thank you, Mary Ann! [stonesthatrock]). It took 88 hours to complete. Now, the tree: Hope you guys like it! Eileen

great tree! i've been in Washington DC when the cherry blossoms were blooming and they are quite the sight. i've also been in Japan to see them blossom which is a national treasure. the cherry blossom represents the fleetingness of youth and beauty.
the Japanese sit under the trees and barbeque and picnic and drink lots of sake, too....it's a helluva party!

Mindblowingly awesome! I get a headache just contemplating the amount of work that has to go into making those.

That tree is so lovely. I also love reading stories behind how or why something was created. Thanks for sharing as your threads are always a treat to view.

Thanks guys! Tomorrow (or later tonight), for comic relief and a bit of an eye-opener, I'm going to post a pic of one of the very first trees I did. It takes time to learn how to do this -- believe me Eileen
