A week ago, we collected at Red Top mountain, Washington. The agate beds of area have been set aside by BLM for rock collecting. It is noted for the agate nodules, and crystal filed geodes ranging from pea sized up to 1800 pounds. Any how, my wife, and I took turns digging a new hole, and up she comes with this nodule not only shaped like a rubber ducky, but also the same size. What I have never figured out, is how she always finds the biggest, and best material where I do the digging. I should have shot this in a tent to get a better image.

How funny! It's the same for me, though. Not that we have super awesome material to find, but what we DO find, 90% of the time, it's found by my husband.
When we went to dig Herkimer Diamonds, I found one...one measy crystal. He found all of the rest.

That is a really cool duck! I wish there was material like that around here.

My wife Lisa and I loved to go to Red Top. We often took family and friends for the amazing beauty. It was one of our favorite places. Before she passed away from metastatic thyroid cancer in 2006, she asked me to spread her remains on Red Top Mountain. One day I will be able to let her go and I will do just that for her. Then some day, our children will have to fulfill my request to be scattered there with her.
I have many pictures of the mountain and the agate beds, although Lisa and I were not rock hounds. The view is amazing in every direction and as far as the eyes can see.
Your post brought tears to my eyes, but mostly because we loved the area so much. We had so many wonderful times there, and so many wonderful memories.

wow that is something. Last year I happened to have come across a nearly finished natural sphere, which when I saw, I thought someone had dropped, but after careful examination, it was natural.
The rubber ducky sure is cute though.
Thanks for sharing.
