A druze pocket from a geode. I stuffed it with wet paper pulp and when it dried glazed it over with glue, then ground it to shape. It kept the druze pretty clean. A Koroit opal. And the lightshow! All those little spots of color... in line or by two, or by themselves are all pin fire. Intense Sparks of color that flash right into you. Opal is just such a trip! There is even a joe cool wolf head wearing sunglasses in middle of that opal pool in the upper right. Koroit opal Trying to image the flash in this Labradorite. Turitulla Koroit. This is one that just went smooth from start to finish. The color came out like a butterfly opening it's wings, and no pits and cracks to worry about. Sweet opal goodness. I wish they were all like this. And another opal Picture Jasper And a group pic with some lame first wrap attempts

I'm totally drooling over those opals! I've GOT to get myself some rough. I had hoped I could find some at the last Gem & Mineral show I went to, but no luck. The few vendors that did have BO, only had cut stones.
That geode druzy pocket came out awesome, too. What kind of glue did you use to stabilize it?

Those cabs are sweet! I love the opal. No matter how anyone slices it, any first is a first. Keep at it. I like the little wrap on the bottom left it looks like a stone in a basket.

Sweet cabs Tony! That 1st BO is so unreal...and I can see why your so in love with the stuff. Ingenious thinking on your part in keeping that druzy pocket untouched. That one turned out great too. They all turned out fantastic....but those are my 2 favs. Steve

Thanks, Gals and Guys! I'm sure glad you aren't tiriing of the opal as I just ordered some more rough Titania... I used wet toilet paper like paper pulp to cram in the druze pocket then when it dried went over it with super glue to seal it good. When I was through polishing I just soaked it in water until I could pick the paper out. Works pretty good! Tweet and Sitnwrap.... ya'll are sweet to say positive things about my wraps and keep a straight face I'm stubborn so I'll keep at it until I get one I'm happy with. It is the bails that are driving me crazy. After NancyF gave me her "clicking the wraps together" hint, I've gotten past the stone wraps, but the bails are driving me mad!! Tony

I think they all look fantastic, even the wraps! You are your own worst critic! (I'm the same). That labradorite is wonderful. You have the knack for it. Mine just chips when I try to cab it. Fran

Well, to be precise I use cotton linter ground in a blender into pulp for filling the druze pockets. The fibers are longer and stronger, than toilet paper would be. I make hand made paper so I have lots of pulp laying around, but it is easy enough to get. Just buy a sheet of 100 percent rag printing paper from an art supply place. Might be a buck fifty to 3 bucks.... then tear some up into bits, stick it into a blender.. fill up with water, pulse a few times 'till it gets an oatmeal consistancy, then stuff it into the druze pockets, pack it tight, and let it dry. The cotton pulp will dry harder and tighter than just any paper would, and the glue would coat it better I expect due to the tight lay of the fibers. Just pour the rest of the pulp out and let it dry... then tear off some and soak it whenever you need to fill a pocket. I think toilet paper, or any spit balls would work I just didn't want anyone to think I'd actually tried those types of pulp. One sheet of rag paper would probably last you for years and years of druze grinding. T

Great cabs there Tony. You have some really good korite material. I haven't gotten up the nerve to buy any good stuff. None of mine has that peacock feather effect that I love. Your first attempts at wrapping don't look any worse than mine. Its another set of skills to learn.
