Holy smokes Curt! I think you've outdone yourself with this batch of photos. I like each better than the one before it and the final one with the red druzy has me flat drooling. Like them much better displayed that way than all chopped up, slabbed or cabbed....Mel

Wow...these are beautiful Pet Wood specimens. Those druzy ones are really unique. I recently got some wood, and I will be posting some pictures shortly.
Thanks for sharing

Rockwizz Thanks! Looking forward to seeing what you have! Mel For years I only collected rough specimens, then got into this cutting and polishing thing. Fortunately there's enough wood out there to do both. Some look good as specimens and some don't. The ones that don't get chopped. Curt

Beautiful Wood Curt! That 5th one down looks so realistic; you could play a joke on someone with that one. Steve

Well I have to admit... You've taken Druzy to an all new level of apreciation with me.. I love the color black and that first one not only is my faaaavorite and an eye popper but has me curious... Is that like your ghost wood.?. a one time find..? or is that a common thing to find black Druzy.. especially pet wood.. either way it's BEEEEAUUUUUUUTIFULLLLL!! .... So is that second and third one .. but most I gotta agree with Mel on this one.. I really like the way you displayed them ....

I also agree with Mel - it would be a waste to chop these pieces up. They are just beautiful the way they are.

Thanks guys!
Roxie The black druze is a fairly rare find. I was fortunate enough to find a large log of it. It's like the Ghost Wood in that it was rotten when it fossilized. The cavities that were left filled with quartz crystals instead of agate like the Ghost Wood.

I am as interested in your set up (lighting?) taking these photographs as I am in the wood. I can not seem to get the detail you're getting in your photographs when I try. How about a "this is how I done it" primer? Thanks.

Wow! Gorgeous specimens, and great photography! How do you display them in your house? Let me know if your wife ever says you have too many.... I'll give them a good home! <grin>
That colorful one is outstanding!

Thanks KD! Good to see you back Cina! Like the blonde look also. LOL Amy About 4 years ago I built a room on to our house for just my stuff. The wife has all her junk all over the house and there was no room for mine. I must admit though the rocks are beginning to spill out on to the porch and yard. Time to build a new room. Cbjames The things you must have to take good photos is a camera, a tripod, and a lightbox. If you aren't familiar with a lightbox, do a Google search. I'm pretty much tied up right now, but I'll try to get a basic tutorial up soon. Curt

The light tent in your blog looks a lot like mine, only I left the bottom of the box intact on mine so I could pin fabric in place with straight pins.

I like that idea about pinning fabrics for different backgrounds and textures. Cool I'm going to have to try that. Also one thing I forgot to put in the article is don't put your light source to close to the tissue paper unless you like to take pictures of fire!

Jason I checked out your blog and it's great! You have some nice specimens. I especially like the wood, but the picture jasper is great as well. I have one suggestion if you don't mind. More pictures! Or maybe a link to an album or two. My light box is the same as yours, but like akansan mine has a solid bottom. Also, I use Artist Spray Mount Adhesive not only for the background, but the sides as well. It stays put until you want to change it out and then it just peels right off. It works beautifully. Curt
