Mr Curt (Texaswoodie) The pet wood pics are beautiful. I have found some pet wood in L. A. (Lower Alabama) near Dothan. the wood has many druzy cavities and sometimes the druzys are good size. this wood is mostly a sandy brown color. Your wood is outstanding with the different colors. Do you clean your specimens and if so what with. I am a little scared to try oxaclic acid cause most of the time it takes all the color out. I would appreciate any information or ideas you have. I hope the hurricane Ike does not hit your area bad. We finally are getting alittle more rain. At least the weeds in the yard are growing good and seeding like crazy!!! Take Care!! I have seen a fair amount of pet wood around here( NW La), but nothing so far with any real color to it. Did you find these in certain types of terrain?

Hey Frank, good to see you posting and I'm glad to hear you guys got some rain finally. Looks like we are going to get flooded this weekend. The best way to clean specimens is a power washer. Acid works great if you want to clean crystals or druzy. The thing acid does is get rid of iron. If most of your color comes from iron, you will get rid of the color as well. I use a final bath in Acetone and a nylon brush. That stuff is expensive, so I only use it on the best ones. Bob i've never looked for wood in La. A lot of the wood around here is plain brown also. I've spent many years looking for wood in Tx. Have done hours and hours of research, have spent hundreds of dollars in gas, and ticked my wife off more times than I can count. The specimens that I post here are the best of my collection. I have tons of yard specimens out in the yard that I have brought home. The best thing I can tell you is be persistent. Talk to every one about where to find wood, research, research, research. Drive people crazy, they will finally give up and give you at least some hints if not an actual location. Around here sandy creek beds give me the best specimens. I'm trying to get a trip together to hunt for arrow points in NW La. Once again, I'm having to pester the daylights out of someone, but I'll get there sooner or later. Curt
