This is a rock (Geode) that was uncovered when TxDOT was cutting a new road here in Helotes, TX. My father-in-law found it when we were scavenging for rock for a garden area. We kept going back everyday; but sadly this was a one-of-kind find.

I can see why you kept going back. That is a real beauty!

WOW!!!! Maybe there were more, but the TxDot crews found them. Was this a recent find?
Absolutely fabulous. I bet it isn't going in the garden....

Actually it was found exactly how you see it here. Evidently the bulldozer cracked it open; but we never could find any other pieces.

There's gotta be more. Keep looking. On the other hand maybe one of the workers put it there on purpose. We rockhounds are kinda sorta funny that way. It's how we get our jollies.

Great looking specimen! I've lived in Texas for almost 59 years and am constantly seeing names of Texas towns I've never heard of before. Curt

Helotes is a smaller community (7,000) right on the outskirts of San Antonio. Helotes claim to fame, so to speak, is that we are the home of "Floores Country Store"; where Willie Nelson got his start.
