Hey guys and gals!!! I'm picking up my used Covington 250 Tumbler on Labor Day and I need a crash course on tumbling! Anybody got a link or some instructions? I aint got a clue! I can't wait to get started, but I wanna get it right because I don't have a lot of rough material to play around with(YET). My first tumble will be ALL Rose Quartz from the Hogg Mine here in Ga. Doug, who I bought the tumbler from, is graciously sending me a bunch of grit for all the steps! Thanks Doug!!! Now, all I need is some know how, and I'll be on my way!!!! I've read a lot of stuff but now it is all mixing in my head ! Figured I'd ask all you tumbling experts! Y'all show off some beautiful stuff here and I want mine to look that good. If somebody could post or PM me a step by step tumbling procedure I would GREATLY appreciate it!! If it turns out well I promise to share some pics! And maybe a really small Rose quartz lottery like a Pick a number between _&_ game or something for a few peices.

Use the rotary tumbling instructions at therockshed.com and adapt for your size.

HiHodge Hound, Try This link to our RTH recepie www.rocktumblinghobby.com/cycle/cycle.htmlThis is a very good recepie and one used as a basis by a lot of members BE Clean Clinicaly clean, Wash and wash again give them a good borax wash and then befor the pre polish do a 24 hour wash/ burnish in Borax and soap flakes (Ivory) Get a lot of paitience thinking of taking them of to day or tomorrow??? go for the extra day DONT forget they have been around for millions of years and it will take time to get a good polish Lastly Dont rush the first stage get them smooth and shaped as you want? maybe 6 weeks (Agates) or longer Also a good long stage 2 in 220 Grit( 2 weeks) lays a good foundation for a glossy polish This is the finish you should get I hope this is of help Im sure you needed a bit more detailed information Jack Yorkshire UK

Just follow the rotary tumbling formula. The 250 should work faster than normal due to it's "triple action" design. You are not going to hurt anything or "ruin" the quartz so dive in and enjoy. Capacity of the 250 is about 6 lbs. so adjust grit accordingly. If you have a specific question on the 250 (or any Covington product) call Dan or Steve at Covington at (877) 793-6636.
