I picked the fellows brains at Richardson's Ranch. They gave me the nickel tour and sold me the goodies to make my own quick sander. I can finish a Thunder Egg in about 20 minutes now. So the machine base was given to me. It was designed to move a video camera up and down. I made a bracket for a 3450 RPM 1/3 hp pump motor ($50 used). The sander pads and sanding discs I bought at Richardson's. Under $100. Moves up and down to accommodate. Works very sweet! I need to find 400 and 600 grit sanding discs for it. I need to make a vacuum collector and it's done I also bought the polishing head at Richardson's. I welded up the base and am mounting it on that bench as soon as the varnish dries. This bench will hold most all of my machines so I can work all the way around the table and it will roll anywhere in the shop out of the way. I used Marine plywood for a top. it's all coming together.

Great work and dedication! We couldn't expect less after the tumbler! Now if you can find a used hydraulic press big enough to make your own rocks you'll be completely self-sufficient ;D. Thanks for sharing,
Dr Joe

Very cool, I like how you use different parts of various machines to make a new one. A lot of creativity.

Chadman -- excellent tools. Your ideas are amazing and it is good to see your creative process.
Keep us all in mind for your next invention.

Thanks for the compliments rockers. My idea is to keep everything portable in the shop so i can roll it out of the way when not in use. I'm a disorganized fellow so I try to make things as self organized as possible. makes it easier in the long run. I have to add electrical, water distribution, a drain system and a collector to hook the vacuum up to my sander and it's done.

Chadman: Now, I know where the polishing head came from on the homemade polisher that I rebuilt this year! Your unit is much simpler than the wooden one I built, and your dry polisher looks a lot better than the ones Richardson's sell. One of my 'hounding buddies (Chasfire) has a Richardson's, and gets incredible polishes on large material in a very short time. Woody

Did some work on my website tonight. I wrote some CSS for mouse over on my images for my new lapidary bench. Try it out if you care to. Mouse over puts a text description of my equipment on my lapidary bench chadhammer.com/CH_Lapidary.html
