Been having problems posting a new thread.. so here is a test with some more cuts. Hard, stable iron stone with just the bit of color showing. Grinding may open up a big opal pool... or may not Nice looking but has pits and sand... will take some work, for sure, to get a nice stone, if at all.

Those are some nice rocks. I find that many of the prettiest rocks have those pesky pits in them. I have read that some people use super glue to fill pits. Have you tried that before? Is so, how well does it work on larger pits?

Lol, not taunting you, Tony... but you did admit once to losing your first opal PebPup.. I've used epoxy 330 or super glue liquid for the pits and cracks with some limited success. My best results have come from repeated glue filling and sanding with a 3000 hard wheel, maybe 3 or 4 fimes on occasion... until I can get the glue to vanish completely. Bobby1 and others have had luck with Opticon but it hasn't been kind to me so far on crater pits. I'm putting together a vacuum chamber so I'll give it a try again sometime soon. I've been seeing lately where folks put out stones for sale with pits and cracks... untreated. Some opal cutters I've talked to said same..they put a good stone out even with small pits. One told me, "don't ever throw a stone away", as if I would Another said "always announce a treated stone to a potential customer, or better yet... show it untreated and treat it for them if they want it done". I'm just doing them to learn so I fill the pits, but I won't feel like it is working well until I can make myself forget which stones have glue fills T

Tony, those a just beautiful. You mention that you will grind the first one and maybe open an opal pool. Can you take pics as you grind so we can experience the opening of the pool if there is one. I would love to see that!
