AHA! I found one like that, too. I would have to agree on the quartz ID. Don't be sad, tho! What a hoot, your hubby brought you a rock! Do you KNOW how precious that is? Keep that rock! And ask for more. Just redirect his eyes.

Looks lime some sort of quartz, but to my highly unprofessionally untrained eye of over twenty plus years of rockhounding I am almost certain that it is most definately a rock known as leaverite.

I will weigh in with a completely different opinion, and this can be tested very easily- if you can scratch it with a nail or pocket knife it is almost for sure selenite or Gypsum.
If not, I would concur with the quartz appraisal.

If it is leaverite, then you are on your way. A small mountain of leaverites collected is proof that you are a serious beginner rockhounder ;D
