Hello. I hail from Apollo PA. I am an artist whose focus is Stained glass, Painting, Digital art, and sculpture. It is the stained glass and sculpture that intersect with Rock tumbling. The glass starts out as 2'x3' sheets and ends up mosaic size. It is these small pieces that I was making earrings out of when it occurred to me that if I could tumble grind and polish I could have something unique. Well so far so good. Using rotary tumblers bought on the cheap I am about to hatch my first batch of polished glass. Well not content with that I have some flowstone that I am slabbing with a carbide tip hacksaw and some marble tailings from a sculpture that I tumble. Hey whatever peaks my interest at the time. Doctors and lawyers practice. Artists play. I'll post pix as they become available. Looking for a slab saw as that hacksaw is losing it's magic. I would be interested in trading notes with anyone local or otherwise.

Any questions you have on tumbling should be answered here, these people are impressive.

Here is my saw set up for cutting flowstone. Mostly calcite with impurities it is very fragile and when sliced thin (.125+/-) transmits light and looks a lot like bacon. Takes me about 20 minutes to cut a slab. It's a jury rig but it works. I had the clamps everything else save the Loc-line and saw blades were rescued from the trash. The two tumblers were bought used. I had to finally replace the motor on the Lortone and the shafts on the Thummlers. I seem to have good luck finding the parts I need at descent prices at "The Rock Shed" There is a piece of green something or other (hard as heck) on the bench that I picked up at a rock shop in Custer SD. The cut slabs. I plan on polishing them with wet or dry sandpaper glued onto the metal stand. I have tried this and it works good enough. I am not really interested in large cutoffs and I am going to cut to size for a border and accents in a stained glass lamp I am planning to make. As an old farmer once told me "Anybody can work with the right tools, it takes somebody to work with out them."

Apollo is a small town about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh PA --supposed to be the only town named Apollo in at least all of USA --------------------paul
