OK Everyone, Here are the pictures of the first two "completed" tumbles. The quartz was found in the backyard while I was not very patiently waiting for my rock order to arrive. Those 3 or 4 days of extra waiting to start my first load just seemed to be to harsh. After a week of coarse tumbling, I decided to run the stones for an additional week of coarse. I likely could have ran them for an additional week, but too excited to wait. The citrine was purchased from Berg's Rock Shop. Tumbled in Coarse for a week and a half to match up with the quartz cycle. Thanks for taking a look. Randy Thanks ejs, I fixed the pictures to display correctly.

Congrats on your first completed tumble! Is the top photo the citrine you purchased and the bottom photo the quartz you found in the yard?

What a great first batch. Big Congrats on this as you should be proud. You took plain ole quartz and brought out it's beauty and that citrine is just perfect.

Ah Randy! CONGRATULATIONS! May it be the first of VERY MANY!!!! Welcome to the fold Buddy, you do realise how slippery the slope is don't you.... Those quartzes are fabulous, I like seeing all the varients of Quartz, and I've got a soft spot for the "plain" Snow Quartz too, if you can pick it up in the back yard.... All the better!! I get a lot from the local beaches and make use of them in various ways, but as a tumbled gem - well you've done a fabulous job on those. Nice Work! The Citrines are really pretty too, and I'm sure they worked well with the "Snowies" in the barrel, they seem to have taken a great shine, and are definately a tribute to your diligence as you worked through your first batch of tumbles. I must say that your photographs are top notch, very clear, bright and a great balance, nicely shot too. I can see that we're in for a treat! What are you tumbling next?! ;D Cheers, Sparkles.

Hi Randy, The white quartz is very nice for a first tumble and that citrine took a wonderful shine and you have so many shades in that batch also. GREAT FIRST BATCH! You know what this means...you're hooked like the rest of us now. I look forward to seeing what you choose to do next. It feels great doesn't it? Fran

Thank you very much for the kind words. I am really pleased with my first batches. Of course, I also have a load that I sent back to coarse grind because I was so unhappy with the results. LOL.
Of course, I also have to thank the many posters at this forum that share their knowledge so freely and eagerly. I have learned so much from reading the many threads on RTH.
Some of the quartz came from one larger rock that my wife brought home from our camping site in the Cascade mountains, the rest was smaller pieces that were laying around (perhaps a grand childs find). I used a 4 lb. sledge to break the bigger stuff into manageable pieces (one of the $89.00 tile saws from Home Depot is on my want list).
I have a double and a single Thumler's 3#. I already started my next two batches. One is a tumbling mix from Berg's Rock Shop and The Rock Shed. The other is banded amethyst from Berg's. Wish me luck. Most of what I have read describes the amethyst as a test in patience. Thank goodness that I like challenges.

The great thing about tumbling is you can always retumble any stones you're not happy with in a future batch to get a better shape or shine on them once you become more proficient and of course patient. Sounds like you're addicted too so better hide those credit cards. ;D
