Well, after many weeks, I have given up on the Ocean Jasper. I was afraid if I kept going , there would not be anything left. Even now, they are full of crystal areas that pit out. Almost every stone has a hole or vug in it. At least they shined up nice for the most part. Here are a few close up Thanks for looking. Fran

Why aren't you pleased, Fran? They look great to me. A few crystalline vugs can be quite pretty!

They can be. I just wanted to make (or attempt) some wire wraps out of these. Some crystals have come out so badly they are rough now. I have heard there are fillers or varnishes but I have no idea what they are or if they are even worth it. Here are some pics that may show it a little better on what has bothered me on some of my favs. Fran

it gives the rocks character with all the vugs and pockets in them. they are very unique and beautiful.

I agree with lyns. I think you are being too hard on yourself! I can understand what you are saying - that desire for the totally even smoothness. But these are all quite lovely.

OJ is usually full of those so you just gotta go with it. Running adequately thick slurry and doing thurough burnishing cycles between stages is all you can do. I personally think the vugs are attractive if they are not too beat up around the edges but like leopard jasper, I can never bring myself to accept those softer spots that undercut and stay dull even after AO followed by TO polish.
