and was told that it was a quartzite. To me that sounded a little nebulous so I thought the eagle eyes here might be able to shed more light. Both are from the same piece. Thanks

It reminds me of aventurine, which is a form of quartz...as is quartzite. I'd be comfortable with it as quartzite.

Found a pix of aventurine in Wikipedia and I have to agree with you.
I thought it was pretty, it was cheap and me being a neophyte with PA plates the shop was not real forthcoming. I did drop a $100 for his trouble, oh well we are all entitled to an off day or two.
To find a piece of anything looking like that around here would be awesome. I can't imagine it being common place. But then my jaw dropped when I saw pet rock being used for parking curbs in Escalante' UT. You can't imagine how drab the rock is around here. It isn't even good for climbing. The only thing with any color is red dog.
I can't wait till I make my next Pacific coast run.
Thanks for the ident.

Hey, Aventurine makes a pretty tumble, as does quartzite! Was it $100 for that one rock...and if so, how large is it? Tumble chunks normally run $2.50 - $3.50/lb., if that helps you decide if you were taken or not.

Oh no way. There was a 50 lbs piece of rose quartz in that purchase @ a buck a pound. That rock was about 30 lbs give or take.

It does look sparkly. If it has mica flakes in it, in layers giving it the sparkle, it'd be aventurine. Otherwise, green quartz or green quartzite....Mel
