This is my first try at taking pictures of rocks I've tumbled. I had no idea it would be so difficult to get good pic’s. I used a pocket sized digital camera, but after much fooling around with the lights and background they came out OK. Now if I did the photo bucket think right maybe they won’t be too big or so small they can’t be seen. Advice and/or scolding on the subject matter, the tumbling process, or photography is welcome. Thanks Garrett

You did a great job with the pics. They show the stones beautiful shine and the size of the pic is fine. Setting them in a candy dish is perfect as your tumbles sure are eye candy.
Is that Tigereye close to the middle and next to the really big stone and off to the left? It's a beauty.

I was kinda surprised the stones came out as well as they did. Things didn’t go so well in the polish stage.
Mostly these all had different amounts of time in the rotary drums in stage one. As a few stones in a drum got ready for the next stage I would removed them and put them in a plastic bucket. When the bucket got full enough to run the batch in the 18 pound vibratory I ran them through the rest of the stages.
Stage one, 46/70, weeks in the rotary.
Stage two, 120/220, two days in the vib.
Stage three, 500F, two days in the vib.
Pre polish, 1,000 aluminum oxide, one day in the vib.
Polish (the plan), tin oxide, two days in the vib. This is where things went south. At first I didn’t use enough water (had paste and no action), then I added too much water… Anyway after 18 hours it sounded like I was processing broken glass so I stopped everything and cleaned up and what you see is what I got.
I guess I can always throw some of the less shinny ones in with the next batch.
Any advice?
Thanks
Garrett

Nice pix. The Quarter for scale was a nice touch. Your backgrounds also work well to off set the rocks. Nice tumble.

Just add the water in much slower if you dry out. You can bring the paste back to a slurry, just keep the vibe going and add a little, stir, and wait about 30 sec before adding more incrementally till you get it moving.
BTW my wife is from Palmer.
Happy tumbles
