Hey Rockers!
I have not posted here in a long time. Just a super busy time in my life. On that point, I need to get away for a couple days and dig some rock. I live about 3 1/2 hours from Geode country but have never been there.
Anybody have some good info. on a good place to camp and dig? From what little I have read I will probably dig at Schefflers , but would love any info. you might have. Thanks John

Not to be the bearer of bad news or anything, unless I am very mistaken Schefflers is no longer open due to new highway construction.

Don't know about Schefflers. You just missed GeodeFest for this year. I've only gone once; most of the places are on private property and unless you have contacts, they only open up once a year for GeodeFest. I have dug at Jacobs which Gary the owner has open most of the time: www.firstcrackgeodes.com/events.htmlI found marble to softball size geodes there. Most were hollow and quartz lined. A few had agate. A couple even had water in them! You might try the Worthen Earth Searchers Rock Club as they organize GeodeFest. Hope that helps, Chuck

Forgot to mention that the web site I gave, First Crack Geodes, provides private trips.
One more thing: at Jacobs you're digging out of shale. You'll need a rock hammer, pry bars, etc.

Thank all! ;D I actually found some numbers on the net and called around until I ran into a guy who offer his land to dig on and do some primitive camping. This is exactly what the Dr ordered In the woods, no phone, no tv, no people, just solitude, pick ax and shovel. ;D I head up for 3 days on 10-11. Mel, I will take some pictures. ;D john
