Saturday I went rockhounding with Jason and Peter. We were going to go try our luck at the opal mine and see if we could find anything worth looking at, but it rained all night and made it too dangerous to try to get to the opal mine. so we went to the Bennett Mountain agate area instead. We found quite a few agates, and Jason and Peter started finding little bits of petrified wood. I had only ever seen one piece of petrified wood out there before and it was jet black, my wife found it a couple of years back. I went up a ridge to go find Jason as we had all kind of got split up, (you know that happens when you walk around looking at the ground all the time) and right on top of the ridge was a chunk of pet wood sitting there amongst all this agate. This is a pretty rare find for the area we were in, so I brought it home and cleaned it up. Just thought I would share a few pics, since I didn't seem to get a picture of any of the agates, or of Jason or Peter. (Something about walking around with my head down all morning) ![](http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z229/catmandewe/photobucket004-1_editedMedium.jpg) check out the bug holes and the knot in the lower section ![](http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z229/catmandewe/photobucket005-1_editedMedium.jpg) on the bottom of it is a whole branch coming out of the knot hole ![](http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z229/catmandewe/photobucket001-1Medium.jpg) Sorry about not getting any pictures of the haul, I am slacking, I know. #1 That is a very nice specimen. #2 Why are you out hunting rocks when you literally have a mountain in your yard? #3 You don't have to answer that, 'cause I already know. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Curt

That Pet Wood is really beautiful as are the landscape pictures. This may be a dumb question but could there be preserved bugs in Pet Wood?

I found out more than once that it happens not to find what it's supposed to find, but to find what are you get used to find. That pet wood is a great find. The overall shape is so interesting and that branch makes it really unique! Curt, maybe this piece of pet wood would be the summit of that mountain you are talking about ;D
The pictures with the landscapes are beautiful, that place looks wild!
