I don't often post my tumbles because, well, let's face it . . . who the heck wants to look at piles of tiny rocks? This latest batch, though, was a "fun" thing and I actually have some bigger stuff that won't bore as much. First off are some Spencer opals that my daughter and I dug out of some of the FRB we got from stonesthatrock. Digging those gems out was a HOOT! I originally bought the box so I could use each boulder in my sculptures, but there were so many that we couldn't help but tile nip a a bunch up. Much of this is opal in matrix, but that's okay. I can set them into my sculptures so that only the opal flash shows. So, without further ado, Spencer opals: Close up of that big one in the middle of the pile. It has a lot more flash than what's in this picture: Next is some chrysocolla that I also got from stonesthatrock. This stuff is unstabilized and SUPER crumbly. I was using most of it for bases and "mountains", but I decided to tumble some broken bits to add to the trees. Lots of black pyrite, but I didn't lose much of the greeny-blue at all: Now for some dentritic opal. I bought some boulders off a guy on eBay and decided to tumble some of it. There are fractures and matrix but I just LOVE the look of this stuff the way it is. Dunno why! Two of my favorite pieces. Please excuse the circle of reddish lights -- that's my chandelier. I had to take these pictures inside: A few jasper and agate pieces: Last, but not least, a few pieces of kyanite: Eileen

Thanks, Mary Ann.
I need to go through and cut some of the opals up again. It's a lot easier to see flash now that they are tumbled and many of them will make great leaves.

Great job on some great material! Have you ever considered doing some trees in Ohio flint? Some of it has some beautiful mixed colors in it. The 2 biggest rocks are Ohio flint. They are the 2 that look sort of like arrow heads pointing to the left. connrock

Thanks, Connrock. Flint -- hrm, no, I hadn't considered it, but now that I see your tumbles I am I've got a bucket of rocks here that I need to break up -- which I hate doing -- 'cause I can never find anything small enough to use tile nippers on. Will that stuff fracture under tile nippers? If I can get my hands on a lot of small bits and pieces that I can tumble . . . hrm.

Well, it has been too long since you last posted something. Tiny or not, they look wonderful! I too can't wait to see what you do with them! Fran
