I use a firebrick, they are cheap, and easy to find at fireplace stores. I think the one inch thick bricks are a dollar. Woody

I use a fire brick as well. $1.99 at the local masonary supply yard. 2 3/4 thick. One slice and it's ready to go. Obsidian also works to an extent but I find I still need to use the brick a couple of times through out the blades life. PM John at Johnjsgems about the dressing stick.

thanks ! I just got my WESTERN LAPIDARY saw going today . 18" saw that is 40 years old . It came with a blade from lopacki . It cuts the softer stuff fast but prior to buying it , the blade wouldnt cut agate . It being new , something is wrong . It also came with a 303 blade in a box. I was told it was good and I can see diamond showing in the brass of the 303 . So at some point I will put the 303 back on . But I do know that there had to be a reason that the 303 was taken off and a new blade put on I do have some obsidian on hand and will try that before trying some more agate . I really am not sure where to get fire brick locally ?

If you're still wanting a dressing stick, I know John at JSGems sells them. Box of fire bricks can normally be purchased at DIY places or farm&home type places. I can buy a box of 12 firebricks at our Orscheln's for about $7.00
