How y'all do-in? I have only tumbled about 4 loads on my machine. The last two barrels I took off were cloudy or had a gray'ish finish on them. I was successful on my first two barrels. I don't know why these turned out dull. My last stage was a polishing stage. I let them tumble for about 3 weeks. I had some health issues and I kind-of forgot about them on that stage. My book suggested a cleaning stage using plastic pellets and a mild soap like Ivory Snow powder( of course I remember Ivory Snow from the old cloth diaper days, but I don't think most young people know what a cloth diaper is.). I have not been able to find it at the store. What can I do? Do you suggest some other cleaning detergent or process so they will shine like they are suppose to. thanks John

Most of us use 20 mule Borax, you can usually find it at most grocery stores.

On further inspection ( after drying ). I noticed some were shiny and some were nor or some had streaks that were shiny . My load was miscellaneous rocks, I guess some may have had a different hardness. Maybe that's why some were not shiny ? Thanks for your in-put. John

Welcome to the board...If you had obsidian in the batch...they need smaller plastic pellets otherwise they come out dull looking even after polish.
I agree with Randy...try borax, for the first grind stage. It always works like a charm.
