Well since last Monday was Columbus day I didn't have an evening class so I spent my time cabbing instead. I finally finished them up on Saturday night. This is a piece I saved from the tumbler. It was pretty good sized, it was in my 12 pounder, so I managed to get 3 slices from it. It either came from desertdweller or rockwizz. Another unknown. I think I got this thin slab at a show but I can't remember (dang old age). Interesting pattern in this one. Its the smaller of two pieces I got out of the slab. About the size of a guitar pick. This unknown I got out of the slab box that is going around here. A bit fractured but still pretty. Smithsonite. Well I saw stoner cabbed some of this and said to myself "Well if he can do it why can't I?" I think I got my answer, skill. lol This stone is pretty soft and I had a hard time with micro-flats on it. Even the resin belts that I use for diamond paste could grind away the rock and leave a flat spot. My hat is off to you Ed. (Well actually it always is) Royal Sahara jasper. This piece was given to bejewelme by stoner so this cab is going to her. I like this stuff. Morgan Hill poppy jasper. I like this stuff but I can't seem to get a good shine on it. Labradorite. Connrock gave me this piece. I've never done any that was gold before. I like the color. I have no idea. Its definitely gemmy, maybe garnet. Charoite. Another one from stoner for bejewelme. Seems atypical for this material.

Nice batch of cabs. I like the Gemmy unknown the best for the interesting patterns and light play but the other unknown wins in the shape category.

Very cool batch o cabs! Gotta say the first three take a first place for strange and wonderful patterns. Number two looks like a logs floating down a river. Neat!.....Mel

Yeah I get the Royal Sahara from stoner? Lucky me1!! They are all pretty, The garnet thing is especially pretty in person as well as the goldish laborodite. I like the pink Smithsonite, even if it was hard to work with it looks nice, and I love pink colors.

The first one looks like an alien landscape! What a great batch, though! If I had to pick an absolute favorite, it would be the 2nd one...LOVE all of the action going on in that stone.

I thought I had already responded to this post. Senior brain fart.
Those are incredible cabs Tony! That first one is just plain killer, as is the SRJ. All of them are fantabulous.

Well you've come a long way in a short time pilgrim!!
Outstanding work!
Maybe you should skip school more often?? LOL
Why does it always seem that it's the unknowns that are the prettiest?

Nice cabs Tony. The smithsonite is really soft and it just takes some time to know how to work it. It's like working seraphinite or rhodocrosite, but they all take a great shine. Don't get too upset about the poppy jasper, some of it just won't shine up as much as others.

They are all incredably beautiful and the unknown I'm pretty sure is Eudalite. Do you remember where you got it because Eudalite I think comes from Russia. Hang on to that as you don't see much of it very often.
