I have a problem with the belts for my expanding drum. There seems to be a huge variation in the length of these belts. I have diamond belts from Eastwind and 3M as well as resin belts from a couple of different manufacturers. There seems to be no consistency among manufacturers about the length of the belt. Some of my belts are nearly impossible to get off and on while others barely stay on. The 3m is by far the worst. I just bought a 600 grit 6" diameter belt and it is so loose it moves off of the wheel nearly every time I tough the cab to it. Do any of you have this problem? If so, what do you do about the belts that are too large? Thanks.

I have had this issue a few times. When the belts are so loose that they move before the drum expands to hold them in place I use a small drop of feathering disc adhesive to hold the belts in place.

Thanks PP. I'll have to look into that adhesive. The one belt is so loose that it moves easily even after the grinder is up to speed.

Tony,
I once had to put an older tighter fitting belt under a loose one! john

I've put two belts on like John has and it helped.

Let me guess, the Eastwinds were tight, right? I only use Raytech True Circle belts. Slip on, slip off, no problems.

Yes Eastwinds are tight. I've had resin belts from 3 different manufacturers with different degrees of looseness. I'd advise to everyone to avoid 3M belts, way too loose.

Try reversing the belts that are loose. Some belts have directional arrows marked inside them. Have not had problem with belts as you describe but will take advice on not purchasing 3M belts.
Thanks

I used 3Ms on my polishing wheels. Yes, they're loose, but I've not had one slip while the machine was running.

If the belts are slipping, try cranking up the RPM's on the machine slightly, it worked for me when I first started cabbing and was using SC belts(YUK!!)

Thanks Ed. I'll have to look at my pulley combinations to see what I can do.
