This is some material I got from an old rockhound friend. He collected this stuff somewhere here in Utah. The purple stuff was from a vein that him and a friend found, and they dug the entire seam. I was suprised how cool the stuff was after I sliced into it. I've got a couple pre-forms waiting in anticipation. Here's a very unique piece of Petrified Wood. I haven't seen anything like this before, and I'm thinking about taking a few more slices off to see what it does throughout the log. Steve

Hmmm. There is some purple lacey agate that comes out of the Topaz Mtn region of Utah but it doesn't look quite like that. Not saying your friend got his locations mixed up because similar geology can produce similar materials, but that specimen sure is a dead ringer, matrix and all, for Royal Purple Aztec Lace out of Durango ,Mexico. ....Mel

Mel, I honestly thought so myself. this guys an oldtimer...but his mind is still Sharp! From everything I've ever talked with him about...he hunted mainly in Utah. It's the same guy I've gotten some of the Dino Bone from. Steve

Steve: I'm going to try to at least partially clean out my storage unit in town next week. Am having trouble finding several boxes of labeled specimens including most the polished Utah stuff. I Only have a single polished specimen of Utah Purple Lace but if I can find it, I'll take side by side pics with the Durango material so you can see what I mean.....Mel

Steve, the lace is wonderful, but the full round pet wood is just spectacular! Does your friend need another friend? Curt

That is some fantastic stuff, Steve.
I would like to find an old timer or two. They are so fun to talk with. What am I saying. I am going to be one of those old timers sooner than later.
