I prefer to tumble an assortment of stones together and my question is this; when tumbling different stones in the same batch, how far up and down the Mohs scale is recommended? Can a stone with a hardness of 7 be tumbled with a 6? A 5? a 9?

You will need to take the 5 out early. I have done 5 to 7 before.

Thanks, deb. I think I'd better check my batch today, then.
I dug a little deeper and found an old thread that stated once you got to a certain number on the scale, I believe it was 7, they could all tumble together,. That helped me as well.
I'm sure there will be a lot of trial and error involved for me.
