A couple of months ago we moved into our new house. In the old house I had the two car garage filled to the brim with my saws, cabbing unit, polisher, workbench, casting unit, jewelry making stuff and lots of rocks in buckets, shoe boxes, etc. In the new house I was duly informed that the garage was off limits!!!!!!! Fortunately the builder of the new house (who had planned on moving into it until the market turned sour) had a workshop pad levelled and ready for a building. Now we are ready to start building!!! Yea!!! What it will look like. Looking down the hill at it. Looking up the hill. And the digging begins! We are trying to get the foundation and driveway poured before the rains start. This dirt around here is nothing but slippery, sticky goo. The rocks are ultra plain, ultra ugly nothing, so I don't bother looking at them. There is gold in the area (Sierra foothills), maybe something there.....hmmmmm. Unfortunately I'm told that they won't finish until March or later depending on the weather. OH well, I'll just have to pace the floor waiting. (I've got my cabber set up on a roll around table in the garage so my wife did compromise but only until Spring). Bob

Well, you have something great to look forward to. It may be little consolation but at least you cars will be out of the weather.

Well, it sounds to me like you have a few months free for some rockhounding! If I were you, I'd go poke around New Hogan Lake to see what I could find.

Michaeljohn, I had to go to San Andreas this morning to pick up the permit, so I stopped by a location sorta on the way back and picked up some Serpentine pieces. I'll try to work on it in the next day or so. Thanks for the tip on looking at New Hogan Reservoir. Its really down now so there might be something lying around. OOPS! Rain in the forcast tonight/tomorrow. Bob

It is 2256 sq. ft. It is divided into 3 equal sections 24' by 32'. One section will be air conditioned for my lapidary and jewelry making workshop, one section will be a room for my saws so I dont have to constantly hear them rumbling away and the third section will be a two door garage to store my kids boat, 1966 Mustang, etc. I'm really looking forward to having a place just for my hobbies and such. For the last 30 years I've had to squeeze into a garage with everything else that ends up in the garage (except no cars would fit into it). It is definitely something that I have dreamed about for many years. My wife has had the same dreams but for different reasons like having a real garage to park her car in, no rock saw oil smells, no rocks piled everywhere, no tumblers and saws rumbling away, etc. Bob
