After being sidelined for most of the summer, my wife and I finally got things sorted out and got back out for a couple of short rock hunting trips. The first was to the area just northeast of Little America in Wyoming, these were the best of the finds that day. Then a few days later, with some directions from some friends in the Beehive Rock and Gem Club, we drove out to the Silver Island Mountains just outside of Wendover, Utah. They put us right on the spot. Here are some of the smaller pieces. These are some of the larger ones still in the back of the truck. Then on the way back to the freeway, we ran into these guys. There were 32 of them in this herd, Then these 2 guys were just down the road within 50 feet of the pavement. What a sight. All in all, it was a great day. I got to ride the quad out in the hills, found some nice rocks , and got to see some great scenery. The weather was beautiful, the temp was in the 70's, who could ask for more? I'll get some more pics up as soon as we get stuff put away and have more time. Thanks for looking.

MidNight~Rocksi3 I really don't know for sure if that rock is opal or not, but I THINK it's agate. I'm still a beginner at all this and I wouldn't know opal if it bit me! I knew that 2 of the rocks in the top picture were pet wood, but some of the local club members tell me that all 4 of them are. I would not have guessed that in a million years. stonesthatrock No, the rams didn't bother us, but we were in my truck, on the pavement, with the diesel engine running, and they still came toward us to take a closer look until our Shih-Tzu noticed them and went postal. Then they just walked away, but it took us 10 minutes to get him to quit barking. It was really funny, he does the same thing with dogs and cows on TV.

WOW, neat stuff and great shots of the rams, I think it is funny that your little shih-Tzu scared those big bad rams, hahaha.
