iambluesman, glad you resurrected this post. I never get tired of looking at jade, and this stuff is beautiful! Also liked your shop. Lots of great pieces!

Nice, great shine on that. I'd never have seen this thread if you hadn't picked it up, that ocean jade is very cool.

That's amazing! Would never have thought that there was jade UNDER the water... what made you think of that idea? Those are gorgeous!!

I tell you, one of my biggest regrets in life was not making it to one of Tony's dives to just beach comb when he offered it to the list! Whether it was work, exhaustion, whatever, I could KICK myself!!! Yes, Helen, at Big Sur area, there's a jade vein that goes into the ocean! It's dark, and Tony has shared some amazing pics where the jade is even blue!

Wow, this thread was before I joined but . . . diver AND rockhound? I might be in love! Tony, Scubahounding TM is a new PADI specialty certification I want to give classes in! Y'all, finding rocks underwater is easier than on land, as long as it is a beachy environment with sand and wave action to keep the rocks cleaned off. Just imagine every rock being all perfectly clean for you to look at. No spray bottle required. Plus, all the rocks that erode and fall off from the shore cliffs . . . guess where they end up? :-) If you're in a non-beach environment, encrusting algae (i.e., crap) grows all over the rocks, so you have no idea what they look like. Carrying the rocks back to the boat/beach is a bit of a biatch though. Hafta get a lift bag if I'm going to keep this up.

Hey I remember you. Several years ago I was diving the cove and was swimming back in. On the beach was this dude in his fifties wearing a wetsuit looking for jade. When I got onshore he started bombarding me with questions on how to find jade and kept asking if I was going back out. I had one extra tank in my car and wasn't too tired and thought I would show him some spots. Thoughout the dive (about an hour) he was like a kid in the candy store but seemed to keep falling behind. When we surfaced the ocean turned pretty gnarly and remember crashing into a couple rocks while catching a wave on the way in. I took off my tank immediately and looked to see where Drew was. Sure enough he was floundering in the surf getting pounded by heavy waves. I remember dragging him through the surf by his fins and thought this guy would never try this again. Welcome to the California central coast!
Several months later and on almost every trip I take there he is always there diving. He has come along way for sure and has caught "jade fever" pretty bad.

Great looking jade. I use to dive too, and lived on the west coast, but was not cutting stone at the time. Now in the north east, land of granite. If you have any spare jade would live to talk to you about it.
